Mel's Quickie Review of 'Seducing the Girl Next Door' by Inara Scott

Seducing the Girl Next Door

The Bencher Family Series # 3.5
By Inara Scott

When Jenna Kellington was fourteen, her first high school boyfriend—her first love—moved away. Now the years have passed. Jenna has been married, a mother of three, and divorced. But it took a business trip to Beijing, China where Jenna finally reunites with Simon Hastings...finding a pleasure she never dreamed existed.

Billionaire venture capitalist Simon Hastings swore he would never be like his father, moving from place to place and never settling down. Still, he's never forgotten Jenna, or that spark they once had that's grown into very adult desire. With every touch, every caress, Simon shows Jenna how to let go. How to feel pleasure. How to own her own sensuality. But Simon will never settle down, or take the risk of love.

And now it's too late. For Jenna has broken her own rule, and fallen fast—and hard—for the man she can never have...

Dan Landis had a simple plan. Drive to a quaint bed and breakfast, spend New Year’s with his best friend Doc, and enjoy a much-needed vacation. Except, he didn’t account for everyone’s favorite klutzy genius Abbey.

Dan must call on his best detective skills, and his worst Hercule Poirot impersonation, to solve this latest mystery. However, the awful truth looms overhead everyone, whatever the answer, nothing will ever be the same.

GHBT- Review- The Cult of Koo Kway by Jay Mims

The Cult of Koo Kway
The Oncoming Storm Series #2
By Jay Mims
Genre- Mystery, Detective, Cozy

When Dan Landis wakes up handcuffed and threatened by a colander wielding high-heeled beauty, he knows it’s Tuesday. And when a hapless blonde is in danger of being mugged, his best friend shows up poisoned in his kitchen, and his sister wants him to track down a cowboy named Tex, Dan knows he’s in trouble.

Dan and his faithful sidekick Abbey return for this new mystery, as college professors keep disappearing, students end up poisoned, and someone keeps trying to kill Dan. And all signs point to an obscure film called The Cult of Koo Kway. As the clock ticks, Abbey and Dan must work together to save the day.

The Cult of Koo Kway is the second book in The Oncoming Storm series by Jay Mims. Once again we find ourselves on a hilarious adventure with Dan Landis, and his trusty sidekick Abbey. This story finds Dan and Abbey in the thick of a new mystery, with college professors to cowboys, poisons to murderers, there isn't a boring moment in this novel.

I am happy to say I loved this book just as much as The Five Santas. Mims kept all the hilarity and added even more drama and suspense. Dan is still as sharp as ever and I love his new relationship with Abbey. The two of them keep the story rolling at a great pace! These books are making my week. Can't wait to dive into book 3!

My Rating:

Sometimes you are lucky enough to dodge a bullet...but sometimes it strikes straight to the heart without an exit wound. It rattles around, leaks out our trust, and brings us to our knees making us wonder; why the %&$@ did I date you!?

From the darkness of emotional and/or physical pains we crawled out and eventually found a way to dust ourselves off and carry on with life.

So let these stories serve as a guide, that all that glitters is not always gold. That the felling of the hairs rising on the back of your neck is a warning, a primal scream to let us know that some things are not as they seem. Trust your gut. Yes, some people are worth fighting for but others have somehow tricked us into seeing a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

With hindsight fully engaged, we can now see the clarity of our past and appreciate the lessons we learned in our very own happily never after.

**ABNA Quarterfinalist**

“Your daughter is special”

Special, that was an interesting word for it. More like broken. Broken and scared she was losing her mind. Or maybe she’d already lost it. Thoughts, images, ideas that had no business in the mind of a child raced through her brain, taking over her consciousness until all she could do was shut down and let them run. There was no room for her. Maybe there wasn’t really a “her” underneath all the noise. The only thing that tethered her to her body, to the here and now was the pain. Careful always to hide the marks, Natalie relied on her knife to feel alive.

Sent to a college she couldn’t remember applying to on a scholarship she didn’t try for, Natalie clung to the hope that she could hide her madness from the family it was destroying. Alone at last she would finally have some modicum of peace, right?

Luka took the assignment reluctantly. In his Senior year, she was the last “special” student he would have to work with before heading off to intern and hopefully land the job, start the life his family had planned for him. The same one they wanted for his sister before she took her life.

Two broken souls with a rare ability in common, Luka and Natalie form a friendship that promises to heal them both until fate intervenes. Faced with a lie so great it threatens all Natalie has come to believe, she must make a choice: lie down and accept it or fight for those she loves.
